Gilkup Group CEO Champions Student Innovation at UNIMAC Entrepreneurship Fair

In a lively display of creativity and ambition, students of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) came together earlier last month to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas at the institution’s annual Entrepreneurship Fair. The event, which drew students, faculty, and industry players alike, served as a platform for young innovators to pitch their business concepts.

One of the notable figures present at the fair was Mr. Gilbert Quaye, CEO of the Gilkup Group of Companies, who was invited as a guest judge for the event. Known for his dynamic leadership in the automobile, real estate, and logistics sectors, Mr. Quaye brought his business acumen to bear as he assessed the students’ projects.

Speaking in an interview after the fair, Mr. Quaye expressed admiration for the ingenuity displayed by the students and emphasized the importance of supporting youth-led enterprises. “What I’ve seen here today is nothing short of inspiring. These young people have brilliant ideas that, if nurtured, can address real societal challenges and create employment opportunities,” he noted.

Mr. Quaye used the occasion to call on corporate entities, investors, and government agencies to invest in student-led startups and innovation hubs. He believes such support is crucial in tackling the country’s unemployment challenges, particularly among the youth.

“Unemployment remains a major issue in Ghana. But when you look at the creativity and determination exhibited by these students, you realize the potential we have as a country. It’s time for investors to pay attention to these emerging talents and provide the financial and technical backing needed to turn these ideas into thriving businesses,” he urged.

The fair featured over 20 student-run businesses and start-ups, ranging from eco-friendly packaging solutions, and agro-processing. Attendees were treated to product demonstrations, business pitches, and exhibitions of innovative prototypes.

Organizers of the fair expressed their gratitude to industry leaders like Mr. Quaye for taking time to engage with the students and offering mentorship. They noted that such collaborations not only validate the students’ efforts but also expose them to real-world business expectations.

As Ghana continues to grapple with youth unemployment, events like the UNIMAC Entrepreneurship Fair highlight the untapped potential within the country’s student population. With the right investment and support systems, many believe these budding entrepreneurs could soon become key contributors to the national economy.
